We are SO excited to be back in official partnership with Melanie, Gina, Allison and the rest of the BrighterBites team.

Although we have continued to work side by side this Summer, we have now launched a year long partnership to continue to serve thousands of families across NYC.

This is just the beginning of us working to take back our food system and move deeper into community connection.

We are continuing our #staffseries - but with a twist! We are thrilled to announce that @BrighterBitesNYC and @TheConnectedChef have launched a year long partnership to deliver the #BrighterBites program across 3 boroughs, 12 schools, and to thousands of families.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

While they aren't technically staff, we had to include them in this series because they are so much more than that. #TheConnectedChef are our partners, teammates, and a part of our @BrighterBites family. We first met The Connected Chef this summer through our May and June home delivery program. We share their values, love for community, and drive to make the 🌎 better. We can't wait to work with them!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Each week, @TheConnectedChef - headed by Kim and Omar (pictured with their sons), will receive a truckload of produce from @CityHarvestNYC and @DarrigoNewYork. They will oversee the safe packing our #fruitsandveggies into thousands of family size boxes ❤📦❤ and delivery to each of our participating schools 🏫.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Yesterday we got news that the USDA food relief program that supported hundreds of pantries across Queens and other parts of NYC had abruptly stopped.

Hundreds of trucks that were scheduled to bring thousands of pounds of food to pantries were cancelled. Many pantrys are closing as a result.

You know what I have to say to our loss of government aide?

Fuck you.

We must continue to realize that our government - republican or typical Democrat - won't come save us.

WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN SAVE US.

Pantry lines across the city continue to be long.

Pantries and food relief programs like Lifeline Grocery have been struggling to bring healthy food to families every week.

But government money and support - especially from this administration - can't be trusted or depended upon.

IT'S UP TO US...ITS UP TO YOU.

Lifeline Groceries has continued to prioritize finding creative, long-lasting and independent solutions for continuing this work because we know how fleeting and insecure other avenues of funding are.

Let's come together, yet again, to continue to create the kind of community we want to live in.

Continue to donate weekly either financially or with some kind of barter or volunteership.

Help call food source companies or other companies with the resources to support your local mutual aid programs.

Every little bit helps and it is ALL of our responsibility to step up in these ways.

Drinking coffee and writing love notes to NYC students about to start a tough year.

As adults, we are supposed to protect, cherish, nurture and teach our younger generation.

Its a scary world we live in right now and that's as a grown up. I can't imagine the emotions all kids are feeling, whether they understand how to express it or not.

I'm praying for the deep strength I know these young kids have.

I'm praying they find the light they need to show their own brilliance.

And I'm sending all the love to families this month who are navigating their own hurt and trauma caused by this systemically racist and patriarchal world we are in all while trying to protect, nurture and teach their children.
